Temporary deactivation of a PBS Approval

(also known as 'Parking' a PBS Approval)

An approved pharmacist who needs to close their pharmacy temporarily must first request deactivation, in writing to the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, before ceasing supply of pharmaceutical benefits. Closure of a pharmacy without first seeking deactivation may result in the cancellation of the pharmacist’s approval to supply pharmaceutical benefits at those premises (PBS Approval).
Requesting a temporary deactivation is a complex process and it is not a ‘given’ that the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing will grant the deactivation.

If you find that you have to temporarily close your pharmacy, please contact us to discuss your plans as soon as you are aware of this and we will advise you on how we can be of assistance.

Please be assured all discussions are in confidence.
